Senior Lead Teradata Database Administrator (DBA)

Hybrid / Onsite Support | Contract

Contract Details
  • Engagement Type: Contract
  • Duration: Longterm contract (extensions expected based on performance)
  • Work Location: Springfield, IL (candidates must be local or within two hours driving distance)
  • Onsite Expectation: Regular onsite presence as needed, driven by system operations, maintenance, upgrades, audits, and disasterrecovery activities. This role does not operate on a fixed weekly onsite schedule and requires flexibility based on operational needs.
  • Schedule: May require occasional evening or weekend support for maintenance

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Lead Teradata Database Administrator (DBA) to support a largescale Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) environment within a highly regulated domain. This is a senior, handson role responsible for the stability, performance, security, and ongoing optimization of an onprem Teradata platform.

The ideal candidate has deep Teradata expertise, experience supporting missioncritical data platforms, and the leadership skills needed to guide developers and junior DBAs while ensuring auditready operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain onprem Teradata hardware and software, including patches, upgrades, and breakfix support
  • Monitor system health, capacity, CPU, I/O, and storage utilization
  • Execute backup and recovery operations using BAR DSA and NetBackup
  • Perform proactive performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Maintain workload management using TASM and Teradata Workload Manager
  • Support Disaster Recovery (DR) builds, testing, annual drills, and maintenance activities
  • Manage access control, DBQL, usage reporting, and security administration
  • Review and approve database objects (tables, views, SQL, stored procedures)
  • Provide daytoday production support for EDW users and system alerts
  • Support internal and external audits, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to meet operational and compliance requirements
  • Produce system status reporting, future roadmap planning, and operational documentation
  • Lead database initiatives and mentor team members
  • Maintain and support OpenText BIQuery frontend tools and models
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years as a primary or lead DBA in enterprise environments
  • 7+ years of Teradata DBA experience (v15+, preferably v17+) including major upgrades
  • Experience with Teradata 6800/1800 systems or IntelliFlex
  • Strong expertise writing and tuning complex SQL
  • Experience with Teradata utilities (FastLoad, MultiLoad, FastExport, BTEQ, TPT)
  • Proven success tuning large data warehouse environments (5TB+)
  • Strong communication and stakeholdersupport skills
Preferred Experience
  • Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) platforms
  • Healthcare, Medicaid, Medicare, or government data environments
  • Cloud databases such as Snowflake and onprem to cloud migrations
  • Logical and physical data modeling (Erwin or similar tools)
  • Experience with OpenText BIQuery
  • Teradata Vantage Certified Master
  • Metadata management, data governance, and security best practices
  • Application server administration (Windows/Linux)
  • Agile / Scrum environments
