Host Position

Gattara Restaurant is currently looking for a morning and evening host. You will be the first point of contact for guests, playing a crucial role in creating a welcoming and positive dining experience. Your primary objective is to manage guest seating efficiently while maintaining a warm and professional demeanor. You will coordinate with the waitstaff and kitchen to ensure smooth service flow and minimize wait times. Additionally, you will handle reservations, manage the waiting list, and address guest inquiries or concerns promptly and courteously. Your role is essential in setting the tone for the restaurant's atmosphere and ensuring customer satisfaction from the moment guests arrive until they are seated.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, previous experience in a customer service role, preferably in a restaurant or hospitality environment, basic computer skills to manage reservation systems and seating charts, strong verbal communication skills, and the ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred qualifications include experience using restaurant reservation and point-of-sale (POS) software, multilingual abilities to assist a diverse customer base, knowledge of local dining trends and menu familiarity, training or certification in customer service or hospitality, and the ability to handle conflict resolution effectively.

Responsibilities include greeting guests warmly upon arrival and providing them with accurate wait time estimates or immediate seating when available, managing reservations and maintaining an organized seating chart to optimize table turnover and guest flow, communicating effectively with servers and kitchen staff to coordinate seating and accommodate special requests or needs, answering phone calls to take reservations, providing information about the menu or restaurant policies, and handling guest inquiries, and addressing guest concerns or complaints professionally and escalating issues to management when necessary to ensure guest satisfaction.

The required communication skills are essential for greeting guests warmly and managing their expectations regarding wait times and seating. Organizational skills are used daily to maintain an efficient seating chart and coordinate with the service team to optimize guest flow. Basic computer proficiency allows the host to operate reservation systems and manage bookings accurately. Preferred skills such as multilingual abilities enhance communication with a diverse clientele, improving overall guest experience. Conflict resolution and customer service training help the host address any guest concerns professionally, ensuring a positive dining atmosphere.

Physical requirements include the ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the restaurant and hotel service areas, the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to approximately 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, the ability to bend, reach, twist, and move throughout front-of-house and back-of-house areas, and the ability to communicate effectively with guests, staff, and hotel leadership.
