BIM Specialist

Branch/Department: Commercial Construction

Job Classification: Non-Exempt, Full-time

Reporting Relationships

Reports to: Director of VDC / Prefabrication

Coordinates with: Project Estimators, Project Managers, Project Field/Shop Foremen

Position Purpose

This position will be responsible for modeling ductwork and equipment as well as the production of fabrication drawings utilizing Revit and industry specific software programs.

1. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex assignments requiring a thorough knowledge of drafting standards, and techniques.
  • Develop increased proficiency in system operation with a resulting increase in productivity and learn how to use all software options.
  • Creation of fabrication drawings and details.
  • Attend coordination meetings with the project team.
  • Maintain, support, and operate associated plotters and printers.
  • Perform site field investigations to coordinate accurate production of drawings.
  • Visit site to discuss efficiency of modeling process.
  • Maintain up-to-date construction drawings.
  • Work with multiple trade draftsmen, both internal and external, to resolve spatial conflicts.
  • Support shop and field personnel with information of modeled projects.

2. Coordinates workflow with all McElroy’s departments.

  • Works closely with all departments to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information.
  • Self-check own work for completeness, accuracy and compliance to standards and specifications.

3. Performs various other job-related responsibilities.

Qualifications

1. Training, education, or certification:

  • Drafting Degree/Drafting Certification; or a minimum of 2 years of experience drafting and detailing.
  • 5 years experience in commerical ductwork installation.

2. Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCad software.
  • Ability to learn and utilize Bluebeam, Navisworks, CamDuct, and similar software.
  • Understanding of the layout of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
  • Computer proficient, including MS Office and email
  • Analytical skills.
  • The ability to adapt to changing technology.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, follow through all assigned projects to completion, and utilize all available resources in the accomplishment of tasks
  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time
  • Interpret specifications and construction drawings
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral

All office staff and anyone working on large commercial projects.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking/standing/climbing ladders.
